NSW State Wide Pairs

1-7 August 2021

In 2021 the NSW State Wide Pairs will run for one session only during the first week in August.

Hands are provided together with a booklet, which features brief commentary on each deal for perusal at the completion of the session. The event is then scored across all participating clubs and overall winners determined.

Cash prizes are presented, as well as gift vouchers from the Bridge Shop and certificates for the winners in each club. Prizes are also awarded in the restricted divisions of Under 25, Under 50 and Under 100 masterpoints (as at 30th June 2021).

2021 Results

What a rollercoaster ride we had this year! The SWP was scheduled to run in the first week of August, just as the state went into lockdown. We initially had 30 clubs that were going to take part, but in the end only 13 clubs were able to hold sessions, twelve in August before the lockdown and one in October after the state reopened. There were 215 pairs competing, slightly less than half the 2019 numbers. Final positions of all pairs can be found by following the Overall Results link.

The top place-getters were:

First: Louise Payne and Peter Quin (Parkes) 69.76%

Second: Wendy Strachan and Margaret Edwards (Orange) 68.53%

Third: Ros Roworth and Cherie Morgan-Jones (Tamworth) 66.28%

Winners of the restricted masterpoint categories are:

Below 25 MPs: Christine Chodasewicz and Sue Dorrington from Camden Haven

Below 50 MPs: Margot Sharpe and Sally Larance from Orange

Below 100 MPs: Evonne Finney and Wendy Brady from Gunnedah

Results for each club can be found by following the Club Results link. Note that when the event is matchpointed across the state, percentages and order of rank can vary quite considerably from those obtained when matchpointing involves only those players within the club. The smaller the club session, the greater this effect.

Players can obtain a board-by-board breakdown of their results by going to the scoring website australianbridge.com/nswba.php?event=2021SWP and clicking on their pair names.

Dates for next year’s State Wide Pairs are 1-7 August, 2022.
