NSW Teams getting ready for the ANC

The Australian National Championships (ANC), to be held in Perth this year, include a prestigious interstate teams competition. The NSWBA runs Interstate Teams Selection (ITS) events for all categories of the competition. Following the Finals of the Open ITS in April, the Women's and Seniors Teams to represent NSW in the Australian National Championships (ANC) have now been selected.
Congratulations to:

Judy Mott - Cathryn Herden
Lynn Kalmin - Lorna Ichilcik

Seniors Team
Paul Lavings - Nigel Rosendorff
Avril Zets - Peter Buchen
Nazife Bashar - Kinga Moses

Full results of both selection events can be found on the NSWBA website. We wish all of the teams success in their respective contests in July!

Women's Team: Anita Curtis, Ruth Tobin, Judy Mott, Cathryn Herden, Lynn Kalmin and Lorna Ichilcik.

Seniors Team: Nigel Rosendorff, Nazife Bashar, Paul Lavings, Kinga Moses, Peter Buchen and Avril Zets.

State Championships for clubs and individual players

The Finals of the State Mixed Pairs Championship will be held F2F on 20th - 21st May. Some clubs have already run qualifying events and selected their representatives for the Final. However, there is still time for clubs to schedule a qualifying event, so don't miss out.

The NSWBA is running its qualifying event online over 2 Monday nights on 1st and 8th May. Casual pairs are also allowed to play!

Note that the State Mixed Pairs Final allows direct entry, so any pair who can't make it to a club qualifying event can enter directly via MyABF.

A one-day F2F congress, the NSWBA Autumn Swiss Pairs, will be held in parallel with the State Mixed Pairs Final on Sunday 21st May.
The State Seniors Championships will be hosted by the Central Coast Leagues Bridge Club, with the Pairs on 30th - 31st May and the Teams on 1st June - 2nd June. Please enter via MyABF.
NSWBA also runs a very enjoyable event to bring together top-level and less experienced players. The Teams of Three will be held on 4th June. Form a team with 3 players and have an experienced player assigned as the team Captain on the day. Each player will have the chance to play at least 2 matches partnering the Captain.

Upcoming Events

The NSWBA Tournament Calendar now allows you to filter the list of congresses so that you can see which are face-to-face and which are online - the online congresses can be filtered by platform.

For Clubs
If you represent a club and would like to host a Directors Course, please contact NSWBA for further details.

For players
To better understand situations that arise when a director is called, Matthew McManus has explained several of them in detail, together with the reasons behind the rulings. His articles are written from the perspective of players - you may find them helpful in your quest to be a better congress player. Review his columns here >
CONGRESS PSYCHE REGISTER
The NSWBA has established a central psyche register for all congresses held in NSW.

The laws permit players to deviate from their systemic agreements so long as the partner of the player who does so has no greater reason to be aware of this deviation than the opponents. Once your partnership has a history of deviating from its agreements in a certain situation you are required to inform your opponents of this tendency.

If you feel that your opponents have psyched against you, please email details of the hand to the psyche register – no action will be taken against players who are reported to the psyche register but once a pair has multiple entries in the psyche register, congress directors will be informed so that they are aware of this history when making their rulings.

A form which can be used for submissions is available HERE.
