Winter is bridge season!
The weather is cold, which means it's a very good time to be inside playing bridge. Maybe, because it's even colder than usual, you are playing better than usual?! In any case, this is the perfect time to remind you about a new tournament that you can play from the comfort of your own home, without having to brave the weather.
The new NSW Online Pairs League is a non-profit initiative of the NSWBA State Committee. It is particularly aimed at non-metropolitan players and will be played on the RealBridge platform. This state-wide IMP Pairs competition has separate divisions for players at every level, with short sessions (12 boards, no more than one-and-a-half hours) every Thursday night for 8 weeks commencing 7th July (substitutions permitted if you can't make a particular night). Only $30 per player of which up to half will be returned to your home club! Please enter via MyABF )
Meet Our ANC Representatives
All of our ANC representative team members have now been selected! You can see the line-up for the Open, Seniors, Women's and Youth Teams in the images above. We wish them all the best at the Australian National Championships in Adelaide from 2nd July - 14th July. In addition to the Interstate Teams and the Butler Pairs, the ANC includes many other events for players of all standards. For more information, visit myABF.
Mixing it up
This year the State Mixed Pairs Championship was able to be held face-to-face, with the winners of the State title being Joan Butts – Michael Courtney. The Country Mixed Pairs was won by Jenny Michael - Rakesh Kumar and their success led to a story in the Southern Highland News. The Autumn Swiss Pairs, held in parallel with the finals, was won by Ado Hardy – Derek Timms. The winners and place-getters are pictured above.
NSWBA Monday Night events continue to run online on RealBridge. Next up: the NSWBA GNOT Qualifying Event over 5 Mondays on June 20th, 27th, July 18th, 25th and August 1st. Please find details and enter via MyABF)

Directors Course

A very successful Club Directors Course, presented by NSWBA Director Ian Lisle, was held at the Glen Bridge Club (Glen Innes) on Wednesday 1st June. The course was funded by the NSWBA and attended by 20 members of a range of local bridge clubs.

If you would like to organise Director training at your club, please contact your regional representative. See the list of representatives here.
CONGRESS PSYCHE REGISTER
The NSWBA has established a central psyche register for all congresses held in NSW.

The laws permit players to deviate from their systemic agreements so long as the partner of the player who does so has no greater reason to be aware of this deviation than the opponents. Once your partnership has a history of deviating from its agreements in a certain situation you are required to inform your opponents of this tendency.

If you feel that your opponents have psyched against you, please email details of the hand to the psyche register – no action will be taken against players who are reported to the psyche register but once a pair has multiple entries in the psyche register, congress directors will be informed so that they are aware of this history when making their rulings.

A form which can be used for submissions is available HERE.
