Answer to Problem

The first thing to realise is that there are two possible places to play: hearts or diamonds. Having shown your hearts the next thing you want to do is show your diamonds.

The second thing to realise is that you want to be in game and possibly slam.

In the ANC finals almost everyone stuffed up this hand. A popular bid was 6D, which North corrected to 6H, one down. Some got too high by other means and some never offered the slam try at all! If South’s KQ of spades is the ace instead, then 6H is laydown.

The correct bid is 4D. This bid is forcing and shows your two-suited hand. Partner should show preference for hearts by bidding 4H. Then you can bid 4NT and find out if you are missing two aces or not.
