Chairman's Corner
Without the people who give their time to organise bridge clubs - many of them
volunteers - we couldn’t enjoy bridge as we do. They are unsung heroes!
Happily, serious disputes are rare. If they do arise they can involve risk of
significant legal and financial consequences. Clubs would be prudent to insure
against these risks but the costs can be substantial, especially for small
clubs.
I am delighted to let you know that, with the assistance of the ABF, the NSWBA
Council is looking at providing very cost-effective coverage against this risk.
Council has agreed to join with the ABF and other States and Territories to
arrange insurance cover to benefit all affiliated clubs across Australia. If
all States and Territories agree, the insurance will cover all affiliated clubs
for management and professional indemnity cover.
The cover will be provided at NO cost to NSW clubs! The NSWBA will pay a share
of the premium through the ABF to cover all clubs.
If your (affiliated) club already has cover, you will be able to cancel it when
the cover comes into force, yielding a saving of hundreds or possibly thousands
of dollars!
It’s not a done deal yet, but if/when all States and Territories have signed
on, we will publish details of cover and the start date on the internet. Watch
nswba.com.au for developments.
